Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay launched a sharp attack on the DMK in the Assembly on Monday, alleging that bribes were collected from government contractors in the name of party funds.
Citing an Enforcement Directorate document, Vijay claimed that contractors were allegedly asked to pay between 7.5 and 10 per cent of contract values. He further alleged that the money was collected in instalments, comparing the system to paying loan EMIs.
Vijay also referred to allegations related to the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department and claimed that the ED document named several alleged beneficiaries, including DMK leaders.
Targeting former minister V Senthil Balaji, Vijay cited references to an alleged “Karur Gang” in connection with irregularities linked to Tasmac operations. He described the alleged network as an organised system of corruption and termed it “scientific corruption.”
The Chief Minister also invoked the Sarkaria Commission report while highlighting older corruption allegations against the DMK.
The remarks triggered strong protests from DMK legislators, who later staged a walkout. Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin dismissed Vijay’s speech as a diversionary tactic and accused him of avoiding questions related to law and order in the state.
