The Centre for Wildlife Health at the College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry under Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar, has achieved a major milestone. It has become the first laboratory in India to receive NABL accreditation for wildlife forensics and veterinary testing.
The laboratory has earned accreditation under the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard. This recognition confirms that the centre meets international quality standards for testing and laboratory services.
The Chief Minister’s Office described the achievement as a proud moment for Odisha. It said the accreditation will strengthen the state’s ability to carry out wildlife health surveillance, disease diagnosis, and forensic investigations. The CMO also noted that the recognition reflects Odisha’s focus on scientific excellence under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Officials said the NABL accreditation will help the centre deliver reliable and globally accepted testing services. It is expected to support wildlife crime investigations, monitor disease outbreaks, and improve conservation efforts across Odisha and other parts of the country.
The recognition marks an important step in strengthening India’s wildlife protection and scientific research capabilities.
