A councillor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) affiliated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been arrested on charges of allegedly assaulting and molesting a woman in Kolkata, police said on Thursday (June 4, 2026).
The accused, Biswajit Mondal, who represents Ward No. 114 of the KMC, was taken into custody following a complaint filed by a woman from the Purba Putiary area. The complaint was lodged at Regent Park Police Station on June 1.
According to police officials, the case was registered after the woman alleged that she had been assaulted and molested. Acting on the complaint, investigators initiated an inquiry and subsequently arrested the councillor.
