Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday to discuss the latest situation in West Asia. During the call, the Iranian President shared updates on recent regional developments and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions.
PM Modi welcomed the progress made toward easing the conflict and reiterated that India believes all disputes should be settled through dialogue and diplomacy. He also stressed the need for lasting peace and stability in the region.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of protecting freedom of navigation and ensuring uninterrupted international trade, especially through key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
The conversation comes as diplomatic efforts continue to maintain the fragile understanding between Iran and the United States after months of tensions.
Meanwhile, India has decided to send Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain to represent the country at the funeral of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which is scheduled to take place from July 4 to July 9.
