Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is working on a proposal to merge the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) into a single unified board.
The proposal was highlighted during the CHSE’s 44th Foundation Day celebration in Bhubaneswar. Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department, Dr N Thirumala Naik, said the move is part of wider reforms aimed at streamlining school education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
He said the state is focusing on experiential learning and plans to prepare Odia reference books for science students appearing for competitive examinations. The CHSE has also received Rs 10 crore for developing digital learning content.
The government is further promoting vocational education, with efforts to help students gain skills in at least one trade after Plus Two.
Naik also announced plans to introduce Plus Two courses through the State Institute of Open Schooling (SIOS), with the initiative already approved by the Chief Minister.
The event also featured the release of the Council’s annual souvenir, Prajna, along with felicitation of students and debate competition winners.
