India scripted history with a dominant 270-run victory over England in the first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s on Monday. The memorable win also helped India remain unbeaten in Women’s Tests played in England.
England started the final day at 130/6 while chasing a massive target of 457 runs. The hosts were bowled out for 186 in 62.5 overs.
Off-spinner Sneh Rana starred with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 42 runs. Deepti Sharma supported well with 2 wickets for 36 runs. Amy Jones top-scored for England with 54, while Sophie Ecclestone made a fighting 50.
Earlier, India posted 285 in the first innings before declaring at 341/7 in the second innings. Yastika Bhatia scored a brilliant 113, becoming the first woman to hit a Test century at Lord’s. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana also impressed with scores of 83 and 70, while Richa Ghosh added an unbeaten half-century.
The victory marked India’s seventh win in their last 11 Women’s Test matches. The triumph became even more special as cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar watched the historic moment from the stands.
