The Ganjam district administration has strengthened COVID-19 surveillance after fresh cases and suspected virus-related deaths were reported in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
In a directive issued on July 13, 2026, the Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer asked all government hospitals to stay prepared. Health facilities have been instructed to follow COVID-19 surveillance and emergency response guidelines without delay.
Hospitals must conduct COVID-19 tests for every patient with Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI). They have also been told to randomly test at least 5% of patients showing Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) symptoms.
Authorities have reviewed isolation wards, oxygen-supported beds, and emergency medical facilities. PSA oxygen plants, oxygen concentrators, and oxygen cylinders must remain ready for immediate use.
ASHA and ANM workers have been directed to monitor villages and urban areas for any sudden rise in fever or respiratory illnesses. Any suspected cluster must be reported quickly.
Hospitals have also been asked to maintain enough stocks of essential medicines, including ORS, paracetamol, zinc, Vitamin A, respiratory medicines, and azithromycin.
Officials have advised residents to follow basic hygiene, seek medical care if symptoms appear, and avoid unnecessary panic.
