On Monday, thousands of members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) marched toward Parliament. They demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak issue.
The protest turned tense as Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel stopped the march near Parliament. Security forces used barricades, while clashes were reported at several locations. Some protesters and security personnel were injured. Mobile internet services around Jantar Mantar and Parliament were also suspended.
The CJP leadership raised three main demands. They called for the release of activist Sonam Wangchuk. They also sought the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. In addition, they demanded ₹1 crore compensation for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the NEET paper leak controversy.
Sonam Wangchuk said his fast would continue despite the police action. He was transferred to Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday due to concerns about his health.
Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the CJP, finished his hunger fast on Monday. He said he followed Wangchuk’s message to save his strength for the ongoing movement. The protest at Jantar Mantar has now entered its 23rd day.
