Bhubaneswar, June 29: Police have booked a 35-year-old man for allegedly flying a drone over the Lingaraj Temple without official permission. The incident took place in Bhubaneswar, officials said on Monday.
Police acted after receiving information about unauthorised drone activity near the protected monument. A case was registered at the Lingaraj Police Station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.
During the investigation, police seized the drone used in the incident. The motorcycle allegedly used by the accused was also taken into custody. A notice has been issued to him as part of the legal process.
The Lingaraj Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the most important religious sites in Odisha. It is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) due to its historical and cultural value.
Officials have reminded that flying drones over protected monuments without permission is strictly prohibited. Such violations can lead to legal action.
