Bhubaneswar: Dairy farmers across Odisha will receive a higher procurement price for milk from September 11, with the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) announcing an increase of Rs 2 per litre.
Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallick announced the decision, saying the move was aimed at providing relief to farmers facing rising cattle feed and transportation costs.
According to the minister, dairy farmers associated with primary cooperative societies had approached Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi seeking an increase in the procurement rate. Following the discussions, the government and OMFED decided to revise the price.
Odisha currently has more than three lakh dairy farmers, while OMFED procures around seven lakh litres of milk every day.
Mallick said the higher procurement price would help farmers manage increased production expenses. He also said OMFED plans to expand the availability of its dairy products in markets outside Odisha.
The minister added that OMFED would continue focusing on quality and transparency while ensuring that the benefits of the cooperative reach farmers at the grassroots level.
