US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has said that the defence partnership between India and the United States is built on deep trust and extends far beyond the sale of military equipment.
In an exclusive interview, Gor said the US does not offer its most advanced defence technologies to every country and considers India a trusted partner for greater military cooperation.
Highlighting the growing partnership, he pointed to the Javelin anti-tank missile system and Apache helicopters. India is also exploring the co-production of Javelin missiles through Tata Advanced Systems Limited and the Javelin Joint Venture, involving Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.
The proposed initiative could establish facilities in India for the final assembly and integration of Javelin missiles, along with component manufacturing. It is expected to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and support its push for self-reliance.
Gor also highlighted the growing number of joint military exercises between the two countries, including the upcoming UDAWAS exercise in Rajasthan. He said the strong defence relationship would continue to expand through cooperation, technology and mutual trust.
