Bhubaneswar: Around 300 Self-Help Group (SHG) women showcased their self-defence skills at a special Shakti Show organised at KIIT in Bhubaneswar.
The women, trained under a joint initiative of Odisha’s Mission Shakti Department and the National Commission for Women (NCW), took part in a Shakti Parade-cum-Demonstration. They displayed various self-defence techniques learned during their training.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, senior officials from Odisha’s Mission Shakti and Women & Child Development departments, and representatives from 22 States and Union Territories attended the programme. Certificates and self-defence kits were also presented to the participants.
The event was part of the two-day Shakti Summit, which focused on women’s safety, protection and empowerment.
The summit concluded with a call for outcome-based action. Participants stressed the need to move beyond schemes and focus on measures that create a real impact on women’s lives.
Officials also highlighted peer learning and cooperation between states as important tools for building a safer and more empowered environment for women.
