The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) is facing one of its biggest political challenges after a group of rebel Members of Parliament announced their decision to leave the party and support the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Reports suggest that around 20 MPs have joined hands with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), creating a major setback for the TMC leadership. The development comes at a time when the party is already dealing with political uncertainty following its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections earlier this year.

Meanwhile, senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the West Bengal school recruitment scam investigation. The questioning has added to the pressure on the party.

TMC leaders have strongly opposed the rebel group’s move and urged parliamentary authorities not to recognize the breakaway faction as a separate bloc. Party officials maintain that the TMC remains united despite the latest developments.

Political observers believe the rebellion could significantly affect opposition politics in West Bengal and influence the balance of power in Parliament in the coming months.
