Lionel Scaloni once again proved why he is one of football’s smartest coaches. Argentina came from behind to beat England 2-1 in the World Cup semifinal with a mix of clever tactics and perfect substitutions.

England took the lead in the 55th minute through Anthony Gordon. Argentina struggled to create chances until Scaloni introduced Nico Gonzalez in the 64th minute. That single change transformed the match. Gonzalez moved to the left wing, Alexis Mac Allister returned to midfield, and Lionel Messi started using long diagonal passes instead of short combinations.

The switch immediately created danger. Messi repeatedly found Gonzalez with accurate crosses, forcing England’s defence to stay alert.

Seeing the threat, England manager Thomas Tuchel strengthened his right side. Scaloni quickly responded by bringing on Gonzalo Montiel and Rodrigo De Paul. Messi also shifted towards the right wing, allowing Argentina to attack from the opposite side. The move caught England off guard as wave after wave of crosses entered the penalty area.

Tuchel made more changes, but one decision proved costly. After Declan Rice left the field, Argentina gained control in midfield. In the 85th minute, Enzo Fernandez took advantage of the extra space and scored a superb long-range goal to make it 1-1.

Scaloni had already added another attacking option by introducing Lautaro Martinez. The decision paid off in stoppage time. Messi, closely marked by two defenders, fooled them with a clever body feint before delivering a perfect cross with his right foot. Martinez met the ball with a powerful header to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory.

Argentina’s comeback was not only about individual brilliance. It was built on smart tactical adjustments, timely substitutions and constant pressure. Scaloni outthought Tuchel when it mattered most, while Messi once again produced a moment of magic to decide the match. Together, they guided Argentina into another World Cup final with a memorable performance.
