The controversy at Ravenshaw University continued on Thursday after the Ravenshaw University Teachers’ Association (RUTA) disputed claims made by Kataka Sadar MLA Prakash Sethi regarding his role in the university’s Senate.
Speaking at a press conference, RUTA President Urmishree Vedmata stated that the Senate has not yet been formally constituted, as the final government notification is still pending. She said that until the process is completed, no individual can claim to be a Senate member or exercise authority over university affairs.
RUTA also referred to a letter reportedly written by the MLA to the Speaker, saying it has already entered the public domain. The association suggested that withdrawing the letter could help ease the ongoing dispute.
The teachers’ body maintained that any intervention in the university’s administration without a legally constituted Senate lacks official basis. RUTA Secretary Shiv Shankar Sahu and members Raja Kishore Prusti and Madhusmita Rout also attended the briefing.
The issue has intensified debate over university governance, administrative autonomy and the delay in forming the Ravenshaw University Senate.
