Odisha has announced an ambitious plan to add nearly 11 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030 as part of its long-term strategy to strengthen renewable energy and support India’s Net Zero goal by 2070.
Speaking at the 7th CII International Energy Conference & Exhibition in New Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said the state aims to achieve 60% non-fossil power capacity by 2035. He highlighted that renewable energy projects worth ₹67,000 crore, covering over 6.7 GW across solar, wind, hydro, pumped storage and hybrid systems, have already received approval.
To integrate renewable energy efficiently, Odisha is upgrading its electricity network with digital substations, smart grid technology and AI-based asset management.
Additionally, the state intends to use its ports, mineral riches, and 575 km of coastline to establish itself as a major hub for green hydrogen in Southeast Asia. The initiative is expected to help decarbonise industries such as steel, aluminium, mining and maritime transport.
Singh Deo also stressed inclusive growth through rooftop solar schemes, green mobility and local employment, while inviting global investors with the promise of a stable policy environment and faster project clearances.
