Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Monday inaugurated a five-day training programme for the second batch of newly joined Child Welfare Committee (CWC) members at the State Institute for Women and Children (SIWC) Campus in Bhubaneswar.

A total of 58 CWC members from 27 districts will participate in the training programme.

Addressing the gathering, Parida reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for every child. She stressed the need for coordinated and compassionate efforts to protect the rights, dignity and well-being of children.

She urged the newly joined CWC members to perform their responsibilities with sensitivity, dedication and empathy. She said the “best interest of the child” should remain central to every decision and intervention.

The Deputy Chief Minister also interacted with the newly inducted members and discussed their grassroots-level experiences and challenges.

The first batch of 78 newly appointed CWC members has already received training. The programme aims to strengthen their understanding of child protection mechanisms, statutory responsibilities and welfare measures.

Among those present were Babita Patra, Chairperson, OSCPCR; Mrinalini Darswal, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, WCD; Monisha Banerjee, Director, ICDS & SW and OSCPs; Reeni Kurian, Officer-In-Charge and CFO, UNICEF; and Sumitra Pattanaik, Additional Secretary, WCD Department.
