The Odisha government has announced plans to develop a Lakshmi Purana Heritage Corridor at the Samadhi of the renowned 15th-century poet Balaram Das in Begunia village, aiming to preserve the state’s rich literary and cultural heritage.
The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida during a national seminar in Bhubaneswar dedicated to the timeless relevance of the Lakshmi Purana. She said the literary masterpiece promotes values such as social equality, women’s dignity, justice, and self-respect, making it relevant even today.
According to the government, the proposed corridor will highlight Odisha’s spiritual traditions, literature, and cultural history while attracting visitors from across the country and abroad. A concept plan for the project was also presented during the event.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan praised the initiative, describing Lakshmi Purana as a powerful message of women’s empowerment and social harmony. Scholars, writers, researchers, and cultural personalities participated in discussions on the work’s lasting impact on society.
The project is expected to become an important cultural landmark, showcasing the enduring legacy of Balaram Das and Odisha’s rich literary traditions.
