Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has admitted that the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) development has not progressed as quickly as expected.
Speaking at an internal town hall meeting, Zuckerberg said Meta’s AI agent projects have moved at a slower pace in recent months. He acknowledged that the company’s leadership had underestimated the challenges involved in restructuring teams while accelerating AI innovation.
Earlier this year, Meta carried out a major organisational overhaul. Thousands of employees were laid off, while many others were reassigned to AI-focused roles as the company increased its investment in artificial intelligence.
Despite the slower progress, Zuckerberg expressed confidence that Meta’s AI efforts would gain momentum in the coming months. He said the company remains committed to building advanced AI technologies and improving its products through continued investment.
Meta Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth also admitted that the transition to the company’s new AI structure was not managed as smoothly as intended. He said Meta is working to improve communication with employees and strengthen confidence within the organisation.
The remarks highlight the challenges even leading technology companies face as they compete to develop next-generation AI systems.
