Mumbai: Popular reality show Indian Idol is set to honour the legendary journey of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty with a special themed episode titled “75 Years of Disco King.” The episode will celebrate the actor’s immense contribution to Indian cinema and music, marking his return to the iconic stage.

Speaking during the show, Mithun reflected on the role music played in shaping his life and career. “Indian Idol has always been a platform where raw talent meets dreams. Music has played a powerful role in my journey, and returning to this stage brings back memories of the songs, the struggles, and the passion that defined an era,” he said.

The actor further praised the current generation of performers, adding, “Watching these young singers perform with such honesty and fire is truly inspiring. They remind me that hard work and belief can take you anywhere.”

As part of the special episode, contestants will light up the stage with energetic performances inspired by Mithun Chakraborty’s timeless hits, celebrating his influence across generations. Judges and the host will also join the festivities, revisiting memorable moments from the actor’s illustrious four-decade-long career.

Mithun Chakraborty remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated stars. Rising to superstardom in the 1980s with films such as Disco Dancer and Dance Dance, he earned the title of the “Disco King of Bollywood.” Despite having no godfather in the industry, he created a cultural phenomenon with chart-topping songs like “I Am a Disco Dancer,” “Jimmy Jimmy Aaja Aaja,” and “Yaad Aa Raha Hai.”

A recipient of multiple National Awards, Mithun was last seen in Vivek Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files, continuing his enduring presence in Indian cinema.
