India and Japan have taken a major step toward strengthening their strategic partnership by announcing new plans to work together in energy, technology, defence, and economic security. During talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that trust between the two nations remains their biggest strength in today’s changing global environment.
The two countries introduced a roadmap to improve supply chains in important sectors like semiconductors, critical minerals, and advanced technologies. They also agreed to expand cooperation in green hydrogen, batteries, nuclear energy, and set up 1,000 biogas and organic fertilizer plants across India.
Defence cooperation will also grow through more joint naval exercises, technology sharing, and stronger maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region. In the field of technology, both nations launched new initiatives in artificial intelligence, combining Japan’s advanced engineering with India’s software expertise.
On the economic front, India and Japan reaffirmed their goal of increasing Japanese investments and expanding business partnerships. A new mobility framework will also encourage collaboration in shipbuilding, aviation, logistics, education, research, startups, and skilled workforce development, further strengthening the long-term relationship between the two countries.
