A couple known for risky rooftop climbs landed in legal trouble after climbing the antenna of the Empire State Building in New York and getting engaged at the top.
According to officials, the pair allegedly entered the building as visitors, stayed inside overnight, and climbed to the antenna early the next morning. They also displayed a banner carrying a message about love before the man proposed.
Police later arrested them after safely bringing them down. Authorities temporarily switched off the building’s broadcast antenna to protect emergency teams during the rescue. Officials also claimed that the incident caused property damage.
The couple has been charged with several offences, including burglary, reckless endangerment, trespassing and criminal mischief. They were released after appearing in court and will return for the next hearing in August. Their lawyer argued that the charges are excessive and said the stunt did not put visitors in danger.
The duo is well known for performing dangerous climbs around the world. They have previously scaled famous skyscrapers and bridges and were also featured in the Netflix documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story.
The incident has once again raised concerns about safety and security at popular tourist landmarks.
