Odisha is heading towards another important electoral phase with the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections, which are expected to bring political activity closer to the grassroots. While the detailed election schedule is yet to be announced, these polls are likely to focus attention on local governance, public services and community-level issues.

The 2024 Assembly election changed Odisha’s political landscape, with the BJP winning 78 of 147 seats, while the BJD secured 51 and Congress 14. The upcoming local polls will provide an opportunity for voters to assess issues such as roads, drinking water, healthcare, education, welfare delivery and local development.

For political parties, the elections will also be significant for strengthening their grassroots organisations and connecting with local communities.
