Former Punjab Chief Minister and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh has said the party does not adequately seek his views on Punjab despite his long experience in the state’s politics.
Singh said he and his colleagues have spent nearly six decades observing Punjab’s political developments and have witnessed several major challenges. He said he expected the BJP to value their experience and consult them on matters concerning the state.
Singh joined the BJP in 2022 after merging his Punjab Lok Congress with the party. He had left the Congress in 2021 following differences with the party and formed his own political outfit.
His remarks came amid speculation about a possible return to the Congress. However, Singh made it clear that he was not planning to leave the BJP. He said expressing his views about Punjab was part of his responsibility as a BJP member.
Singh, 84, also indicated that age should not necessarily bring a political career to an end. His comments come ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with all major parties preparing for the 117-member House.
