The Odisha School and Mass Education Department has directed all Block Education Officers (BEOs) to ensure that pending electricity bills of government schools and departmental offices are cleared within seven days.
The order was issued by the Director of Elementary Education following instructions from the Office of the Chief Secretary and the School and Mass Education Department. Funds have already been allocated block-wise to cover outstanding electricity dues of Primary and Upper Primary schools across the state.
BEOs have been asked to immediately release the sanctioned amount and complete the payment process within the stipulated time. Officials have also been warned that failure to comply with the directive could invite disciplinary action.
The government’s decision is aimed at preventing interruptions in electricity supply to schools and ensuring that educational institutions continue to function without disruption. In addition to preventing needless fines or service interruptions, timely electricity bill payment is anticipated to enhance the seamless running of departmental offices and schools.
The directive has been marked as highly urgent, reflecting the government’s focus on maintaining essential services in educational institutions across Odisha.
