Bhubaneswar: Odisha has received recognition for 11 Post-Diploma DNB seats at three government medical colleges, marking a significant step towards strengthening specialist healthcare services in the state.
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), New Delhi, has approved the seats across five specialities — Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, T.B. and Chest Diseases, and Anaesthesiology.
The seats have been sanctioned at Shree Jagannath Medical College and Hospital in Puri, Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir, and Shaheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput.
Of the total 11 seats, five will be reserved for doctors serving in the Odisha government, while six will be offered through the All-India quota.
The new training opportunities will allow doctors to pursue advanced postgraduate specialisation while also supporting the state’s healthcare system. The move is expected to improve the availability of specialist doctors, particularly in government health facilities.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling welcomed the recognition and credited the development to the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
Mahaling said trained specialists would help expand specialised medical services at Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres and Sub-Divisional Hospitals across Odisha.
The addition of these seats is expected to further strengthen medical education and specialist healthcare delivery in the state.
