Khordha Police have dealt a major blow to an alleged drug trafficking network by recovering 278 grams of brown sugar in two coordinated raids. The operations led to the arrest of six accused, while one suspect is still on the run.
The first raid was carried out near Hanuman Temple at Dalaiput under the Khordha Sadar police station after officers received reliable intelligence. Police seized 257 grams of brown sugar from the spot. A country-made pistol, live cartridges, cash and other items were also recovered, pointing to possible criminal links beyond drug trafficking. Four people were taken into custody.
In another operation in the Banapur area, police recovered an additional 21 grams of brown sugar and arrested two more individuals.
Khordha Superintendent of Police P. Smit Parmar said the district police have stepped up their campaign against narcotics. He revealed that more than one kilogram of brown sugar has been seized in the district over the past one-and-a-half months.
Separate cases have been registered in both incidents. Police are continuing the investigation to identify other members of the alleged trafficking network and to trace the absconding accused.
