Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu has resigned from the Union Council of Ministers. With immediate effect, President Droupadi Murmu accepted his resignation. The decision was taken on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi under Article 75(2) of the Constitution.
Bittu joined the Union Council of Ministers in 2024. His resignation is expected to help him focus on the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections scheduled next year.
Ravneet Singh Bittu is the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2024 after leaving the Congress. He later contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election but did not win.
Despite the defeat, he entered Parliament through the Rajya Sabha. He was elected from Rajasthan to fill the vacant seat left by Congress leader K. C. Venugopal.
The government has not announced a replacement for the Railways portfolio yet. Bittu’s resignation marks an important political development as the BJP prepares for the next electoral battle in Punjab.
