Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk is under close medical observation at Safdarjung Hospital after being admitted on the 21st day of his hunger strike. Doctors said he is suffering from dehydration, low potassium levels, and rising ketone levels. They warned that delaying treatment could increase health risks.
His wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, questioned the hospital’s handling of his medical reports. She claimed the reported potassium level had changed sharply within a day. She also said the hospital did not allow an independent lab test or provide a blood sample for verification. Citing a lack of transparency, she requested his discharge and asked doctors not to begin treatment without her consent.
Meanwhile, Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke announced an indefinite hunger strike in support of Wangchuk. He later alleged that the Delhi Police detained and assaulted him. A woman also threw ink at Dipke during a public gathering. Police detained the woman, but her identity and motive have not been disclosed.
Delhi Police have increased security around Jantar Mantar and urged protesters to leave the area peacefully.
