The Odisha Government has stepped up security arrangements for the upcoming Rath Yatra in Puri. The main goal is to ensure a safe festival with zero casualties.
Ahead of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s review meeting, Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania held a high-level security review at the Puri Superintendent of Police’s office on Friday.
The meeting focused on law and order, crowd control, traffic management, and overall security. Every year, the famous Rath Yatra attracts lakhs of devotees from across India and other countries.
The DGP said more than 12,000 police personnel will be deployed during the festival. The security setup will include over 200 police platoons, Rapid Action Force (RAF), National Security Guard (NSG) teams, specialised security units, and Home Guards at important locations.
Khurania urged devotees to cooperate with the administration and follow the traffic advisory issued by the police. He said public support is essential for smooth crowd movement and effective security management.
Senior police officers, including several Additional DGPs and the Central Range Inspector General of Police, attended the review meeting. Officials expressed confidence that strong coordination and careful planning will help ensure a peaceful and well-managed Rath Yatra.
