At least 15 people lost their lives after a speedboat carrying Indian tourists overturned near Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island on Saturday.
Four staff members and thirty-two Indian tourists were on board. About 400 meters off Hon May Rut Ngoai, it capsized while sailing from Hon May Rut Island to An Thoi Port.
Rescue teams, including the navy, coast guard, border guards, and local authorities, quickly reached the accident site. They rescued 21 people from the sea. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Vietnamese authorities have started an investigation to find the exact cause of the accident.
The Indian Embassy in Hanoi confirmed the incident and said it has opened emergency control rooms to assist affected families and provide updates. The Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City is also helping with coordination.
Witnesses said nearby boats rushed to help passengers before official rescue teams arrived.
Phu Quoc is Vietnam’s largest island and a popular destination for international tourists. The tragic accident has raised fresh concerns about passenger safety during sea travel in the region.
