Bhubaneswar: Odisha is gradually transitioning from winter to summer, with a noticeable rise in daytime temperatures across the state. More than 20 locations have already recorded maximum temperatures above 30°C, indicating that warmer days are setting in earlier than usual.
Dhenkanal emerged as the hottest place in the state, registering a maximum temperature of 31.8°C. It was closely followed by Jharsuguda (31.6°C) and Gopalpur (31.4°C). The state capital Bhubaneswar also experienced a warm day, with the mercury touching 31.2°C.
Despite the rising daytime heat, nights continue to remain relatively cool in several areas, with minimum temperatures dipping below 15°C in some districts. This contrast reflects the lingering influence of winter conditions during early mornings and late nights.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense fog in isolated pockets of Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Khordha districts on January 29 and 30, which may affect early morning visibility.
According to the weather department, minimum (night) temperatures are expected to rise gradually by 2–3°C over the next two days. After this increase, no significant change in night temperatures is likely across Odisha in the immediate future.
The evolving weather pattern signals the steady withdrawal of winter and the approach of hotter days ahead.
