The alliance led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has been given a new name — Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance. The decision was taken during a meeting of alliance partners at the TVK headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai.

Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders attended the meeting chaired by Vijay.

The alliance name includes the word “Victory”, which is closely linked to Vijay’s name. The leaders also discussed plans to strengthen the coalition’s organisational structure.

Key issues included preparing a Common Minimum Programme, forming a steering committee and selecting a convener for the alliance.

Among those present were Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B Manickam Tagore, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan, MDMK leader Vaiko and IUML representatives.

However, leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Communist Party of India were absent. CPI(M) state secretary P Shanmugam said the Left parties were extending issue-based external support to maintain political stability.

The latest meeting was the second major gathering of the post-poll alliance partners.
