Jamui: Three minors have been arrested in connection with the alleged harassment and molestation of two Class 10 students in Bihar’s Jamui. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been formed to investigate the incident, which was recorded on video and later widely circulated online.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening near Madwa Pahad when the two students were returning from coaching on a scooter. Police said a group allegedly stopped them, abused and assaulted them before preventing them from leaving. The students were reportedly forced to apologise before being allowed to go.
The video shows members of the group manhandling the boy and allegedly assaulting the girl. Police said seven to eight people have been identified so far, while their criminal backgrounds are being verified. The SIT is investigating the incident under the supervision of the Jamui SDPO.
An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Two of those arrested are reportedly aged between 17 and 18.
Police have also initiated action against 32 social media accounts that allegedly circulated the video. These include 13 Facebook, 12 Instagram and seven X accounts.
Authorities warned that sharing material revealing the identity or face of a minor is an offence and can attract action under the POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice Act.
The search for the remaining suspects is underway, while police are also reviewing security and patrolling arrangements in the area.
