New Delhi: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered in Northwest Delhi, with her decomposed body found in an open field days later. Police have detained four suspects, including three juveniles aged 16 and 17.
The case surfaced on September 13 after police received information about a body lying near Kushak Road in Swaroop Nagar. Police said the victim and suspects knew each other and allegedly consumed alcohol inside a tempo before the crime.
The condition of the body made forensic identification difficult. Police said stray dogs had eaten parts of the body, while one hand was found separately at the site.
Investigators examined more than 50 CCTV recordings and spotted a tempo moving suspiciously. Although its registration number was initially unclear due to darkness, police traced the vehicle to Khadda Colony. Questioning its driver reportedly led investigators to the other suspects.
Police recovered two knives allegedly used in the killing and blood-stained clothes.
The victim’s family had not reported her missing, saying she sometimes left home for several days.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.Police are looking into any potential involvement. Police are investigating whether others were involved.
