A man, his wife, and their son have been arrested in Odisha’s Ganjam district for allegedly murdering a relative following a family dispute linked to an inter-caste marriage, police said.
The incident occurred near Pilipada under Gangapur police limits, where 55-year-old Bhasi Pradhan of Palakasandha village was reportedly attacked while grazing goats with his son. According to police, the accused allegedly assaulted the father and son using sharp weapons and bamboo sticks.
Bhasi Pradhan died at the scene, while his 22-year-old son suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
Police said tensions had been growing between the two families after objections were raised over visits by the accused’s daughter and her husband, who had entered into an inter-caste marriage. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation.
Following the incident, investigators arrested all three accused and seized the suspected weapons used in the crime. A murder case has been registered, and police have launched a detailed investigation to establish the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the attack.
