Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday laid the foundation stone for an elevated corridor between Jayadev Vihar and Nandankanan in the Odisha capital, a major infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion on one of the city’s busiest stretches.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the elevated corridor will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹952 crore. As part of the project, four flyovers will be built at Jayadev Vihar Square, Kalinga Hospital Square, Damana Square and KIIT Square.

“The state government has decided to construct the elevated corridor to address traffic congestion on the busy Jayadev Vihar–Nandankanan stretch. Once completed, the project will ensure smooth and hassle-free travel for commuters,” the CMO said.

On the same occasion, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new Lok Seva Bhawan (Secretariat) in Bhubaneswar. The new Secretariat, along with a new Odisha Assembly building, will be constructed on 71.13 acres of land. The proposed Assembly building will have the capacity to accommodate around 300 legislators. The combined project will be implemented at an estimated cost of ₹3,623 crore, the CMO added.

In addition, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a total of 71 projects under the Works Department, with a combined investment of ₹6,700 crore. Of these, 32 projects worth ₹1,070 crore were inaugurated, while foundation stones were laid for 39 projects valued at ₹5,630 crore.

The projects are expected to significantly strengthen road infrastructure across the state and play a key role in advancing Odisha’s goal of becoming a developed and prosperous state, the CMO said.
