Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted India’s 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of the financial year, saying the strong performance demonstrated the country’s growing confidence despite global uncertainty.
In a selfie-style video posted on Instagram from Bishkek, where he is attending the SCO Summit, Modi said the world continues to face wars, crises, supply-chain disruptions and instability following the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, he said, India is moving ahead at a rapid pace.
“7.8% growth. Strong numbers. Even stronger confidence,” Modi wrote while sharing the video.
Without naming anyone, the Prime Minister also referred to the “jhooth ki goonj” or echo of lies and “nirasha” being spread amid India’s economic progress, remarks widely viewed as a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Modi reiterated his appeal for an Atmanirbhar Bharat, urging citizens to support Vocal for Local, Wed in India and swadeshi initiatives. He also encouraged people to avoid unnecessary foreign travel and gold purchases.
He said greater self-reliance would help India fulfil the aspirations of future generations and achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
