New Delhi: India’s young population sees job availability as its biggest employment challenge, according to the August 2026 India Today Mood of the Nation survey.
Around 32% of respondents said there are simply not enough jobs for young Indians. Low salaries followed at 18%, while 17% each cited jobs not matching qualifications and slow or unreliable government recruitment.
The survey also highlighted strong expectations from governments. As many as 63% of respondents said the Union and state governments should take the main responsibility for improving youth employability. Schools and universities were cited by 14%, private employers by 9%, and individuals and families by 5%.
The August 2026 survey was conducted by CVoter, with 25,184 people directly interviewed between July 1 and August 25. It also incorporated 91,795 interviews from CVoter’s six-month tracking exercise.
The findings underline a wider challenge: India has a large and increasingly educated young workforce, but many young people continue to struggle to find stable, well-paying employment that matches their qualifications.
The survey suggests that for Gen Z, the employment debate is not only about skills but also about creating enough quality opportunities.
