Bhubaneswar: As part of a special Raksha Bandhan program by the Comprehensive Region Urban Transport (CRUT), women passengers will be able to travel for free on AMA Bus services across seven major towns in Odisha on August 27.
The fare-free service will be available throughout the day in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Berhampur and Keonjhar. Women commuters will not have to pay any fare while travelling on the AMA Bus network in these cities.
CRUT anticipates that the program will help about one lakh women. The move is aimed at making public transport more accessible, convenient and affordable while encouraging safe mobility for women.
The initiative also reflects the values associated with Raksha Bandhan, including care, protection and mutual respect. It aligns with the state government’s broader focus on women’s empowerment and improving access to public services.
The special provision will remain in effect for the entire day on August 27 across the AMA Bus network operating in the seven cities.
