Preparations for launching commercial flight services from Malkangiri Airport have reached the final stage. The service is expected to be formally inaugurated by the Odisha Chief Minister.
A virtual meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Principal Secretary of the Commerce and Transport Department to review the preparations. The Malkangiri district administration has completed key arrangements under the supervision of District Magistrate Pratesh Arvind Rajeshirke.
Senior officials, including Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Bedabara Pradhan and Deputy Collector Swayam Siddharth Rout, reviewed the ground-level arrangements and coordination.
Initially, non-scheduled commercial air services will operate under the RCS-UDAN scheme. IndiaOne Air will operate nine-seater aircraft on the route.
A special facility will also be established at the Collectorate for ticket booking and passenger assistance.
The new air connectivity is expected to improve transportation in the tribal-dominated district and support local business, tourism and economic activities.
