The Monsoon Session of Parliament witnessed another stormy day on Tuesday as the Lok Sabha began debating the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. The legislation aims to strengthen India’s anti-paper leak framework following the nationwide controversy over the alleged NEET 2026 paper leak.
The debate resumed after six days of repeated disruptions. The Opposition agreed to participate after Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held discussions with floor leaders to end the deadlock. The House allotted six hours for the debate, while the Rajya Sabha is also expected to discuss the Bill.
The session turned tense when Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi questioned the government’s handling of the student protests and raised allegations related to police action against demonstrators.
A fresh controversy erupted after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused Priyanka Gandhi of making remarks that harmed the reputation of the newly appointed Education Minister. He demanded an apology in the House.
Priyanka Gandhi refused to withdraw her remarks and said she would present evidence to support her claims. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey also asked her to authenticate the allegations.
The debate on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill is expected to continue as both the government and the Opposition remain divided over the handling of the NEET controversy and the proposed reforms.
