The BJP is exploring a plan to reunite the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and bring the united party into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Reports state that if both parties decide to unite into a single party, the plan calls for two places in the Union Cabinet.
The BJP reportedly wants the NCP to remain a separate party instead of merging with the BJP. The move is aimed at strengthening support among Maratha and non-Brahmin voters in Maharashtra while keeping alliance partners politically relevant.
However, differences within the NCP remain a major challenge. Sunetra Pawar’s camp is said to be seeking the Maharashtra finance portfolio and the post of national party president. Senior leaders, including Sunil Tatkare, Praful Patel, and Chhagan Bhujbal, are pushing for a broader power-sharing arrangement.
The BJP is also focused on increasing support in Parliament for major Constitutional amendment bills, including the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act and the proposed Delimitation Bill. A united NCP within the NDA could improve the government’s numbers, although it would still require support from additional parties or abstentions to secure the required two-thirds majority in Parliament.
