Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk continued his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, as the protest reached its 19th day. He is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met Wangchuk at the protest site. He urged the Central government to remove Dharmendra Pradhan from office. Kejriwal also proposed that Sonam Wangchuk should be appointed as the next Union Education Minister. He said the government must listen to the voices of students and young people.
The Delhi High Court also heard a petition regarding Wangchuk’s health. The Centre assured the court that his medical condition would be checked every day and that proper care would be provided if needed.
Many Opposition leaders have visited Wangchuk and requested him to end his fast. However, Wangchuk has continued his protest. He started the hunger strike on June 28. He believes the issue is bigger than one resignation and wants a detailed discussion on education reforms during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.
