The leadership dispute in the Punjab Congress has intensified ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
AICC in-charge Bhupesh Baghel met senior Punjab Congress leaders in Chandigarh to discuss the growing differences within the party. The meeting was attended by former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, and several MLAs and former ministers.
During the discussion, Channi reportedly renewed his demand to remove Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. He also accused Warring of damaging his reputation by spreading false claims about his political links.
Several leaders expressed support for a change in the state leadership. Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said the party needs strong and united leadership to perform well in the 2027 elections.
Baghel said he would inform the Congress high command about the concerns raised by party leaders. However, he denied that there was any official demand to replace Warring.
Raja Warring later dismissed the controversy and said internal differences would be resolved soon. The Congress leadership has not announced any change in the Punjab unit so far.
