Australian authorities have launched an investigation into an online death threat targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his scheduled visit to Melbourne on July 9.
According to Australian media reports, the threatening comment appeared under a Facebook post promoting the “Melbourne Meets Modi” community event at Marvel Stadium. The message, posted by an account using the name “Abu Mustafa,” contained a threat related to the Prime Minister’s visit.
The matter was reportedly referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) on the same day the comment surfaced online. Investigators have identified an IP address linked to the post and are examining the circumstances to determine whether any criminal offence has been committed.
The AFP has not issued an official public statement on the investigation so far.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to visit Australia for bilateral meetings and community engagements, including the Melbourne event. Australian law enforcement agencies are known to enforce strict security measures during visits by foreign leaders.
Security for the visit is expected to involve the Australian Federal Police, state police, and specialised protective units to ensure the safety of the Prime Minister and attendees throughout the official programme.
