Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran has sparked controversy with a personal remark directed at Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, drawing criticism from political opponents and former BJP state chief K. Annamalai.
Speaking at the BJP headquarters in Chennai, Nagenthran took a swipe at Vijay over his earlier remarks in the Assembly about “father”. He said that anyone wanting to know where their father is should ask their mother at home rather than raise the question in the Assembly.
The comment referred to Vijay’s earlier “kutti kathai”, or short story, which was aimed at DMK president MK Stalin after the party’s defeat in the April 2026 Assembly election.
Nagenthran’s remark quickly drew criticism. Tamil Nadu minister A Rajmohan described it as uncivilised and inappropriate, stressing the need for political decorum.
Annamalai also condemned the BJP leader’s comments. He said political disagreements and criticism of governments were legitimate, but dragging family members, particularly someone’s mother, into political attacks crossed the limits of decency.
The remarks have added another layer to the growing political confrontation in Tamil Nadu, with calls for leaders to maintain restraint and dignity in public discourse.
