Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech from the Red Fort focused on India’s youth, development and national self-reliance. His 13th consecutive Independence Day address also presented a broader roadmap for building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Youth Takes Centre Stage
Youth was one of the biggest themes of the speech. Modi announced plans to provide AI training to one crore young Indians. He also announced free online coaching for competitive examinations.
The coaching programme is aimed at helping students, especially those from poor and middle-class families, reduce the financial burden of exam preparation.
The focus on young Indians comes after recent student protests linked to exam paper leaks and unemployment. Modi said the country’s youth will play a key role in building a developed India.
Seven-Point Saptdhara Roadmap
Modi also outlined a seven-point Saptdhara framework. It focuses on key areas needed for India’s long-term growth:
- Manufacturing: Make India a trusted global manufacturing hub.
- Agriculture and Food: Take Indian products such as millets, spices and fruits to global markets.
- Technology and Innovation: Strengthen capabilities in AI, quantum technology, space and robotics.
- Gati Shakti: Improve connectivity through modern highways and high-speed rail.
- Defence: Promote self-reliance and develop advanced defence technologies.
- Energy Security: Expand nuclear power and strengthen India’s energy independence.
- Soft Power: Use yoga, Ayurveda and Indian culture to increase global influence.
Warning Over ‘Dimaagi Naxals’
Another major part of the speech was Modi’s warning about what he called “dimaagi naxals”, referring to an ideological form of Naxalism.
He said such ideological elements must be identified and isolated.
Modi also renewed his call for Atmanirbhar Bharat, with semiconductors, critical minerals and energy security among the key priorities.
The speech combined a strong youth-focused message with a long-term development vision for India.
