Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday appealed for compassion towards students who allegedly used abusive language against him during the recent protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. In a video message shared on Instagram, he said he had chosen to forgive them and urged society to guide young people instead of demanding harsh punishment.
Modi described the abusive remarks directed at him and his late mother as painful. However, he said young people often make mistakes and should be given an opportunity to learn and improve.
The Prime Minister urged people not to isolate or harass the students. He said legal action alone would not solve the problem and stressed the importance of constructive guidance. Comparing the situation to accidentally biting one’s own tongue, he said society should respond with understanding rather than anger.
Meanwhile, police have registered a Zero FIR against a woman accused of making objectionable remarks during the protest. The case has been transferred to Parliament Street Police Station for further investigation.
The Prime Minister also encouraged students to focus on their future and contribute to the nation’s progress. The NEET protest, which continued for several weeks, ended after the Centre announced measures aimed at improving transparency and accountability in the examination system.
