Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced a Rs 1,000 crore special relief package for flood-affected areas. Nearly 9.40 lakh people have been affected by the latest flooding.
Majhi announced the package after reviewing the situation in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar and Kendrapada. He said the amount was based on an initial assessment. More funds will be provided if required after detailed damage reports are received.
The package will support farmers, livestock owners, fishermen, artisans and affected families. Small and marginal farmers with crop losses of 33 per cent or more will receive input subsidies. The assistance will be Rs 8,500 per hectare for non-irrigated land, Rs 17,000 for irrigated land and Rs 22,500 for perennial crops.
Eligible farmers will also receive seed assistance through DBT. Free vegetable mini-kits and support for pest and disease management will be provided.
The government will repair damaged irrigation projects, roads and other infrastructure. Assistance will also be given for damaged boats, fishing nets, ponds and livestock.
Relief supplies, including cooked food, dry food and rice, will continue in affected areas. Majhi directed officials to speed up rescue, relief and rehabilitation work.
